Pattern Moʻolelo: Kōnane

From our Mai Kahiko Mai design series, the Kōnane (checkerboard) motif honors our kūpuna (ancestors) and reminds us of our orientation to the many wao (environmental and spiritual realms) that serve as our foundation. It functions as an ancestral compass, embodying balance, deliberate movement, and ecological relationship.

Each piece is individually stamped by hand across the front torso in our Richmond studio using traditional kāpala techniques and bio-based Algae Ink™, yielding subtle variations across every garment while keeping the back panel quietly minimal.

  • Fit & Sizing: Relaxed straight unisex cut with traditional set-in shoulders and sleeves that fall naturally with the arm. Preshrunk. Model is 5'7", 164 lbs, 32" waist, wearing a size Medium.

  • Circular Construction: 100% natural plant fibers with a soft bamboo neck label. Sheds zero microplastics in the wash and is completely compostable at end of life.

  • Studio Dispatch: Hand-finished and dispatched directly from Richmond, CA.
